Laying mulching film over prepared soil beds before planting does several jobs at once: it blocks light from reaching the soil surface so weeds can't establish, it slows moisture evaporation so the soil underneath stays consistently damp between waterings, and depending on the film color, it can also help moderate soil temperature — useful for extending a growing season at either end. It's a standard practice for row crop farming where reducing weeding labor and improving water efficiency both matter to the bottom line.
Because coverage needs scale directly with planted area, it's sold by weight rather than a fixed roll size — tell us your area to cover and crop row spacing and we can help estimate the quantity you'll need. It's a genuinely different product from our Weed Mat range: mulching film is a thinner, lighter plastic sheet generally used for a single growing season, while weed mat is a heavier, woven fabric built for longer-term, multi-season ground coverage.
